Werner Player - River Kayak Paddle with mid-sized, down turned blades

Werner Player - River Kayak Paddle with mid-sized, down turned blades

$ 260.00 USD

Introduction

The Player is Werner's mid-sized solid laminate river kayaking paddle with "down turned" white water paddle blades. The player is ideal for average sized kayakers, so it is the most popular of the three sizes of this style (Twist is the smaller one and Side Kick is the bigger one).

In general, down turned blades are more forgiving (less prone to diving) than conventional blades when sculling and doing other combination strokes. This makes down turned blades especially popular with play boaters because in order to play in holes you have to be able to get out of them. And when you are trying to get out of a sticky hole, you can really feel the difference that a forgiving blade makes. For river runners, the advantages of a down turned blade may not be as noticeable as when hole riding, but the benefits are still there. So regardless of whether you are big on playing or just want to make it safely down the next rapids, down turned blades make things easier.

Description

The Player can be equiped with either carbon or fiberglass blades. Carbon paddles are lighter, but they are also stiffer and less durable. For most people, Werner's fiberglass white water paddles are stiff enough, and anything stiffer just means more shock transmitted to your body. So we offer the carbon Player by special order for those who are sure they want it.

The Player is available in standard and small shaft diameters. For most people (men and women), even the standard shaft is too small and they do well to build it up with after market grip tape etc., but if you often have trouble finding gloves small enough to fit your hands (XS and smaller glove size) then the small shaft diameter is for you.

The Player can also come in straight shaft or bent shaft. The stright shaft is made of fiberglass while the bent shaft is made of carbon fiber. It is not possible to either paddle shaft with the opposite shafts construction material
