Lightweight Touring Kayaks
Generally for comparable model with of adequate strength and durability, composite kayaks (fiberglass, aramid/Kevlar, or carbon/graphite) are lighter than roto-molded or thermo-formed kayaks. Carbon fiber is the lightest followed by Kevlar (aramid) and then fiberglass. For composite kayaks, infusion molding improves impact strength while reducing weight by 3-5 lbs. White hulls are lighter than all other colored hulls. Also scratches don't show as badly on white hulls because scratches in gelcoat are white, and white gelcoat is the easiest color to match when repairing. So for anyone wishing to have a light weight sea kayak, we recommend and stock infusion molded carbon/Kevlar composite kayaks with a white hull.
