To be legal, kayaks (canoe, etc.) need to have Coast Guard approved PFD and a whistle (or air-horn). 

This is a low profile whistle that we carry as a back up to the Pea-less whistle or it can be your primary whistle if you are on a budget. The orange with Kayak Academy on one side is easy to spot. We recommend storing your whistle in a pocket on your PFD rather than a zipper pull or outside your pocket. When doing rescues and scrambling up on your kayak it can get caught. A thin elastic cord is included to attach to the small D ring hidden in your PFD pocket.
